John.
Your book has been an inspiration to those of us that have read it and to those interested in this fascinating subject. It is simply nothing else but outstanding dedication to those men who were lost during the Zulu wars of 1879.

Peter,

Thank you very much for that, my book was meant exactly for that purpose - a tribute. Frankly, my style has changed since I wrote the book. I would dearly like to update it, and put right the errors that I know it contains.

At least you have grasped what the book is about. One South African critic could not see that and she roasted it because was lacking in maps and filled with endless names!

Another reviewer claimed I'd lapsed into "Boys' Own" mode, when I mentioned the death of David Moriarty at Ntombe - problem was I was using the words attributed to Moriarty himself by witnesses.

Again, many thanks for your kind words above.

Clive,

You haven't got the wrong idea - me write anything sensible, perish the thought!

To the best of my knowledge the two books, that I know of, which have been published most recently are quite sensible.

That others have works published which are obviously sub-standard, is not the fault of author - I blame the publishers.

But if we all sang the same hymn book this forum would be a fairly dull old place!

I have read Ron Locks and Peter Quantrills book "Zulu Victory" and that Ithought was very good indeed I am at present on Adrian Greave book" Rorkes Drift" I cannot pass comment yet because I have not finished reading it yet, I have just oprdered "Hill of the Sphinx" and look forward to reading that. I have also pre ordred David Rattrays book due out in 2003 . I find I learn a little more from every book that I read ,But I must say your own book "They fell like Stones " I feel was excellent in its engravings of the participants of the Zulu war and battles and I would like to see you update it. By the way John do you know it is now fetching aroun 25 on the second hand market now.
