Date | Original Topic | 25th October 2002 | New Osprey Book 'Isandlwana' By Glenn Wade Has anyone bought the new Osprey Book by Ian Knight? What are the plates like? Is it new reading?
Glenn | Date | Replies | 25th October 2002 | Alan Critchley Glenn,
this question has already been asked by Paul Tocher on 3 August, although he didn't have his email address.
Could I ask anyone who has a point or question to supply an email address or not have the item featured?

My copy arrived this morning.
The plates are double-page spreads:-
1, The discovery of the impi.
2, 'The British Collapse' - with the flight of the cannon of N/5 in the foreground.
3, 'The Final Stages...' - centring on a small knot of men - 24th, N.N.C. & a Natal Carbineer.
The illustrations are very well drawn and excellently presented. I have spotted one faux pas in the last three, that is the 24th sergeant in the foreground has been illustrated wearing two 'Good-conduct' stripes, to my knowledge ranks over and above that of corporal didn't wear 'Good-conduct' stripes. Personally I'd like to see some more work by Adam Hook on the subject of the Anglo-Zulu War.
Good to see an index in this volume as well.
Well worth buying just to see some 'new' photographs, as well as the 3-D battle maps.
I've only skimmed through the text at present. I've not spotted any startling new revelations, but it appears to be a clear and concise account of the action.
Recommended.

Anglo-Zulu War Research Society. | 28th October 2002 | Glenn Wade Thanks for that John. Mr Ian Knight contacted me personally outside the forum to give me infomation on his book himself.
May I just say thank you to Mr Knight.
