Date | Original Topic | 15th October 2002 | visit to South Africa By Chuck Hoskinson I recently returned from what has become my annual pilgramage to South Africa.
The centerpiece of my trip was the "History in Action" celebration in Dundee, where my wife (a British camp follower) and I (a Boer soldier) participated in the Battle of Talana.
I also (for the second year) saw the re-enactment of the Battle of Rorke's Drift which was, according to information on this site, historically accurate, unlke the film. This increased my enjoyment of witnessing the re-enactment, rather than basing my opinion on comparing it to a dramatized film.
I also visited the site where "Zulu" was filmed, in the Amphitheater area of the Drakensburg.
Hopefully, I will be able to put something together w/pictures in the near future (i.e., after the 2002 elections. After all, I live in Florida, and must ensure that my vote counts) :-)

I'm a member of the Heilbron Commando - the UK's only dedicated Boer group with members in Holand and England. If you're interested I'll let you know our calendar for 2003 once it's arranged. Please email me direct for further details. I'm actual;y heading off to SA tomorrow and will be back in the UK on 03 November.
Cheers, Chris | 18th October 2002 | Chris Tapster Sorry, forgot my email address. it's [email protected] |
