Date | Original Topic | 24th July 2002 | Last Survivor By John S Radburn I have just been looking at a web site that states that Trooper Rober J Kincade of the Natal Mounted Police was, it is believed, the last survivor of the terrible Isandhlwana masacre to die. He passed away in Addington Hospital, Durban, aged nearly 80.
The only problem is that it does not state when.
Can anybody enlighten me on this fact or any other information regarding him.
Many Thanks
John R
| Date | Replies | 31st July 2002 | Julian Whybra WH Clements who interviewed the two survivors, Sparks and Kincaid (sic), wrote that they died within a few weeks of each other just before the manuscript of his book 'The Glamour and Tragedy of the Zulu War' was placed with the publishers, which was 9th January 1936.
If you get the exact date, I'd be pleased to hear from you. | 31st July 2002 | Julian whybra By the way, I always understood that Dugald MacPhail (Buffalo Border Guard) was the last survivor of Isandhlwana, living into the 1940s.
