Date | Original Topic | 12th June 2002 | Was Adendorff definitely at Rorke's Drift ? By Scott Plummer Like many, I became interested in the Anglo-Zulu Wars through the 1964 film "Zulu" as a child. The most readily available popular history was Donald Morris's " The Washing of the Spears"(1966). Morris contradicts the film and portrays Adendorff as a coward who fled from Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. Yet Ian Knight in "Rorke's Drift 1879: Pinned like Rats in a Hole" ( 1996) writes that " all evidence suggested he remained " despite contrary statements in other accounts ( not just Morris's). Is this the general consensus and from exactly what evidence is Knight's conclusion drawn? | Date | Replies | 12th June 2002 | Scott Plummer Oops. I did not see this subject already started on 23 Feb 2001. The Discussion Pages are a lot bigger than I first thought. Only my second visit to this great website. Please forgive me for taking up valuable space ! |
