By Paul Cubbin
This isn't so much a post as a shameless plug. I imagine most of the contributors to this site are already familiar with the museum, but I went for the first time last Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would wholeheartily recommend the experience alongside a picnic and daytrip as the drive to Brecon from Cardiff is a joy this time of year and there are plenty of wonderful scenic spots to scoff down an egg roll or two. Brecon itself is reminiscent of a picturesque Cornish village (Padstow without the harbour!) and the museum couldn't be easier to find (turn right over the bridge and keep going). Don't follow RAC instructions, though, go north at junction 32 off the M4 and follow the A40 up, it's easier and prettier.

Paul,
I quite agree with you. Brecon is one of my very favourite places. Plenty of marvellous walks, places to see, wildlife etc, not to mention the museum. In fact, if that lottery win ever happens, it's high on my list of places to live. The mountain centre is a great place to visit, plenty of information, nice refreshments and a good place to start a walk from. The last time I was there I sat outside and was mobbed by house sparrows and chaffinches after the crumbs! I find the whole area around Brecon has a tremendous sense of history, obviously I'm not the only one,
Cheers,
Margaret McF
