27th May 2005Soldier at Rorke's Drift or not?
By Steve Lockhart
Some time ago I was toldthat there was possibly a soldier at Rorke's Drift by the name of Lockhart. He supposedly survived the campaign, and on his death was buried in a paupers grave in Manchester.
Has anybody any information that can confirm this one way or the other.
Thanks Steve Lockhart

Steve,

Yes he was there at the defence.

Lockhart, Thomas 25B/1176 Private
Born: St. Michael's,Manchester, Lancashire
(Pg. 347 Holmes' "The Noble 24th")

Check out the above, he seems to have led an interesting life.

Best
