By Gillian Mead
I'd like to know what happened after the
fighting stopped on
Jan. 23rd. 1879? When did the troops return
to England, and on what ship? Where did
the injured soldiers go to recover? Is the
hospital still operating in England?
Has anyone ever checked the hospital records? When did Queen Victoria first visit the men?
I am trying to map out my Great, grandfather's life......a hard task from
Canada! HELP!!!

Gillian,
Tell us your GGFather's name and we may be able to help if he served in 24th Regt. Contact us direct at the museum - [email protected] Look forward to hearing from you.

Martin,

Gillian has already told you her forebear's details on the RRW site.

She is descended from Bombardier T. Lewis,, 'N'/5 R.A., a hospital patient at Rorke's Drift. Lewis's father Isaac is buried in Brecon. Isaac's son-in-law was George Chambers, 1st/24th, killed in action at isandlwana.
