14th March 2005 | Isandhlwana drummer print By spencer lawrence Hi, cna anyone help me? I am trying to locate a print for my Father's birthday. It is of a drummer (boy?) just as the Zulus are attacking the British defence, which I believe to be at Isandlhwana. The painting conveys the horror in the drummer's face.
My father saw it many years ago and has regretted not buying it ever since.
Does anyone know where I could get this print or provide me with any details to aid my search? I've tried the usual art shops and internet searches.
Many thanks in advance

This sounds like it might be CE Fripp's famous painting of the Last Stand of the 24th at Isandlwana. It features a drummer boy as one of the central figures. Have a look in the shop section of this site, or failing that you can get it by visiting the RRW regimental museum in Brecon. Great painting. The original hangs in the National Army Museum in Chelsea - well worth a trip.

Yes - Ive just checked the shop on the left of the screen. Follow the link into the RRW Museum Shop, enter the prints category and move to page 3.

Thanks for your replies. I've had a look at eh print and sent it onto my Dad but he said hat the Charles Fripp one isn't the one he was after. He said that the drummer boy is the central figure of the painting and there are just one or two soldiers left as the zulus surround them. Any ideas?
Thanks once again. The Fripp print is fantastic though.

Sorry. Doesn't ring any bells with me and I'm pretty keen on the subject, including the art stuff. Over to the rest of the gang.

Where did your father see this painting ?

I wondered if it was a shop or a private sale, like an auction, etc., and if it was in the U.K.
Original paintings obviously can be expensive and maybe not all have copies (prints) made of them, as AZW enthusiasts know most of the more famous ones.
There are a few more modern artists painting images of AZW battles, etc., that may be lesser-known.
Are you sure it was depicting a scene from the AZW and not another campaign ?.
