At the real battle of Rorkes Drift, Rev. Otto Witt was not what the movie made him out to be. In fact, he helped look for the approaching Zulus by posting himself on a hill, so that he would be able to see them. After he had reported seeing them, he left the mission, seeing that it was "no place for a holy man."
